Norwich puts Tuesday’s loss behind it

Norwich 67, Whitney Point 15

WHITNEY POINT – Any lingering thoughts about its loss to Windsor the night before were tucked away in a hurry at Whitney Point Wednesday.

Corey Dietrich scored nine in the first period, and Vaughn Labor seven points vaulting the Tornado to a 22-2 lead. Head coach Mark Abbott subbed regularly the last three quarters, yet the Golden Eagles struggled to find the hoop. Until late three-pointers by Ben Manwaring and Anthony Pagano, the Golden Eagles were perilously close to not reaching 10 points for the game.

The 15 points surrendered by Norwich is a record in Abbott’s 23-year tenure, as is the six-point yield in the first half when Norwich mounted a 38-6 advantage. “We talked a long time before the game about getting back on track,” Abbott said. “We played with a lot of energy and intensity. It was a good effort.”

Dietrich led three Norwich players in double figures scoring 17. Josh Borfitz had 12, and freshman Seth Thomsen bucketed 10.
