Oneonta grapplers top NHS; B-GA edges Marauders

B-G/Afton 39, Sherburne-Earlville 27
SHERBURNE – B-G/Afton closed out the match with a decision and a pin to edge the Marauders in a non-league matchup Wednesday.
Chris Burnett (135) took a 3-1 decision over the Marauders’ Daniel Hicks, and Darin Terpstra (140) pinned Derek Murray in 58 seconds.
S-E gained momentum at the midway point of the match picking up four straight pins from Justin Coye (171), Daryn Delee (189), Braden Thornton (215), and Spencer Franklin (103) to lead 24-18. “We wrestled well, we just couldn’t finish,” said S-E assistant coach Brian Hicks. “It’s a tough matchup for us. Our good kids match up with their good kids, and we didn’t win those matches. We had three losses where we normally would get three wins.”
In a battle of sectional champions, Danny Gormley (125) edged Greg DuVall, 2-0.

NORWICH – Forfeits dominated as only six matches were contested at Norwich Wednesday, and Oneonta won four of those bouts to claim a STAC win.
Norwich led early as Tanner Cummings (103) won by forfeit, Cameron Miller (112) grabbed a major decision, and Mike Hull (119) pinned Tim Bemis. “We had too many holes to cover tonight, and I didn’t do a good job in the middle managing the match,” said Norwich coach Terry Hagenbuch. “There aren’t many switches you can make, but when they are there, you have to do it.”
Norwich hosts Chenango Forks Tuesday.
