Tree Board votes on Arbor Day posters
OXFORD – The Village of Oxford Tree Board met on Friday, Jan. 9 in the office of Roger Monaco, to vote on the 2009 Arbor Day poster contest which students of Oxford Academy’s 5th grade recently participated in. The Oxford Village Tree Board, represented by Gray Stevens, Roger Monaco, John Godfrey, Dale Johnson and Jeanie Petersen, sponsors the contest annually on the local level of the National Arbor Day Poster Contest, sponsored by Toyota. The 2009 theme, “Trees are Terrific … in Cities and Towns!” was designed to increase student’s understanding of the importance of trees in a community.
Fourteen 5th grade students of Charity Gipp, the Oxford Academy Middle School Art Instructor, entered the contest. They are: Cydnee Beam, Bryan Towndrow, Robert Meek, Donald Stevens, Marcus Vigus, Terry Whitmore, Carly Bates, Cherrie Houck, Aimee Greenman, Tiger Gould, Erin Redfield, Adriana Rheinheimer, Angelo Gonzalez and Misty Johnson. Of these, three place winners will be selected and one poster will be sent to Albany to compete in the state level of the contest. The three winners of the Oxford level will be announced on Friday, January 16th in the Middle School.
