NORWICH – Japanese exchange student, Kanako Takuume, came off a screen and hit a 15-foot baseline shot with five seconds left in the game to cap Norwich’s strong fourth quarter. The home bench and partisan crowd erupted in approval, and the two points – Takuume’s first this season – highlighted a strong finish to Norwich’s fifth win this season.
“We’ve been a second-half team this year,” said Norwich coach Krista Porter. “We were able to get the ball inside more, and we got decent looks at the basket.”
Leading the winless Golden Eagles by only seven points at halftime, Norwich dominated the second half holding a 35-21 advantage.
Point cut a 40-23 Norwich lead in the third quarter; however, to 42-34 with 5:06 remaining on Alicia Ford’s two free throws.
Tatyana Ithier pulled up to hit a short baseline shot to start a 17-2 run for the host Purple. Elisha Eddy had eight points during the spurt, Michelle Testani scored three, Molly Demellier canned a three from the top of the key, and Adrienne Sharpe added a free throw.
Eddy led with 18 points and 15 rebounds, Hannah Runyon scored 13 points, and Ithier dished out a team-high six assists.

SHERBURNE – S-E defeated Madison for the second time this season as it took command in the third quarter.
“I felt we let them hang around a little bit in the first half,” said S-E coach Karen Mulligan. “We came out and played better in the second half. They switched to man-to-man, and we went on a little run.”
Sam Crandall came off the bench to score a season-high 12 points to lead S-E (9-4). Megan Record added 10 points. “(Sam) was all over the place making plays and making shots,” Mulligan said. Record added five rebounds, five steals, and four assists.

HARPURSVILLE – Harpursville pulled away from Oxford in the second half getting 16 points from Hannah Kimmel and seven from Alycia Kimmel Friday.
Oxford led by five at the first turn, and hung within two of the MAC Division II-leading Hornets at halftime. Haley Witchella scored 11 of her 16 points in the opening two quarters.
“We played a great half, and it was probably the most intensity we’ve had all season,” said Oxford coach Chris Palmer. “I think we got a little tired in the second half. They also have Hannah Kimmel, and we don’t.”
Alyshia Crawford added 10 points for Oxford, who host Hancock Wednesday.

NEW BERLIN – Sidney found a way to maintain its double-digit margin, and received 24 points from Dani Gravel to win at UV Friday night.
Gravel set the tone for the Warriors in the first quarter netting 10 points to give her club an 18-10 lead. Gravel had eight more markers in the pivotal fourth.
UV won the final two quarters, but never closed the gap to less than six points. Hannah Johnson had 15 points and nine rebounds for the Storm, and Melissa Friedel added 14 points. UV hosts Unatego Wednesday.

OTEGO – Unatego tested Greene’s unbeaten record until the final 20 seconds of the game. Erin Smith and Liz Wentlent each made a pair of free throws to wrap up the Trojans’ 11th straight win this season.
“We knew it would be a tough game, and they ran some gimmicky defenses that had us frustrated a little,” said Greene coach Dave Gorton. “I have to credit our team. They are mentally tough and don’t get rattled.”

WORCESTER – G-MU ended its season-long winless streak Friday night getting a career-high 27 points from sophomore Tanya Barnes.
Barnes hit a three-pointer at the third-quarter buzzer that upped the Raiders’ lead to 30-17. “We’ve had a lot of close games, and we weren’t able to sneak one out,” said G-MU coach Jim Johnson. “We didn’t have to do that tonight. It was nice because we shot the ball a little better. I didn’t realize Tanya had 27 points. It was a quiet 27 and everyone seemed to play well.”

OTEGO – Greene finished Saturday’s game on a 15-0 run to improve to 8-4 overall on the season.
Dan Carlin scored in transition for the first four points, and Evan Moxley went 4-for-4 from the foul line during the spurt. In the fourth quarter, the Trojans were a combined 8-for-10 from the foul line. “Any time you can get a league win on the road, it’s huge,” said Greene coach Jeff Paske. “This is a nice win.”
Booker Davis finished 9-for-11 from the field in an 18-point, seven-rebound evening. Carlin added 15 points and six steals, and Scott Gorton bucketed 12 points. Greene hosts league unbeaten Walton on Tuesday.

HARPURSVILLE – Harpursville had no answers on defense for Oxford seniors Alex Champlin and Brett Trask.
Champlin scored 24 points in the first half on his way to a career-high 31 points. Trask hit four three-pointers in the first half, and was 5-for-6 in the game from behind the arc to finish with 15 points.
After trading the lead with the Hornets for most of the first quarter, the Blackhawks clamped down the rest of the half. In the second quarter, Oxford outscored the host club 27-0.
“We made a minor adjustment in our defense, and by the look of things, I guess it was a major adjustment,” said Oxford coach Tim Davis.
Champlin added eight rebounds and five assists in the contest. “Alex and Brett shot it well tonight – they were on fire,” Davis said.

WEST WINFIELD – Unbeaten Mt. Markham turned back S-E’s fourth-quarter comeback effort scoring the game’s final nine points in Saturday’s Center State Conference game.
The Marauders (4-8), down 17 points to start the fourth, closed to within six points at 46-40 after a trio of three-pointers from senior Cody Schraft. Schraft would foul out soon after, and that consequently ended the rally.
“We didn’t shoot it well (16-for-56), but we had opportunities against a good team,” said S-E coach Kevin Vibbard. “We were right with them until the end.”
Sean Boise led the Marauders with 13 points, who host Mt. Markham on Tuesday in a quick rematch.

COPES CORNERS – G-MU went scoreless the first four minutes of the fourth quarter, and after Worcester drew to within one point, closed on a 15-3 spurt in Friday’s win.
“We lost our poise for a little while. They rushed tempo, and we didn’t manage it well,” said G-MU coach Bill Hartman of the fourth. “We settled down, and did a nice job making foul shots at the end.”
Tyler Wildfeir and Cody Hall had six points apiece in the fourth, and G-MU was 9-for-11 from the foul line in that same time period. Hall led with 24 points, and Wildfeir added 10. Hartman also noted contributions from Andrew Delmar, Vic Foster, and Cory Townsend. “We had great contributions from the kids off the bench. It was a good team effort tonight,” he said.

HARPURSVILLE – Harpursville pulled away from Oxford in the second half getting 16 points from Hannah Kimmel and seven from Alycia Kimmel Friday.
Oxford led by five at the first turn, and hung within two of the MAC Division II-leading Hornets at halftime. Haley Witchella scored 11 of her 16 points in the opening two quarters.
“We played a great half, and it was probably the most intensity we’ve had all season,” said Oxford coach Chris Palmer. “I think we got a little tired in the second half. They also have Hannah Kimmel, and we don’t.”
Alyshia Crawford added 10 points for Oxford, who host Hancock Wednesday.

NEW BERLIN – Sidney found a way to maintain its double-digit margin, and received 24 points from Dani Gravel to win at UV Friday night.
Gravel set the tone for the Warriors in the first quarter netting 10 points to give her club an 18-10 lead. Gravel had eight more markers in the pivotal fourth.
UV won the final two quarters, but never closed the gap to less than six points. Hannah Johnson had 15 points and nine rebounds for the Storm, and Melissa Friedel added 14 points. UV hosts Unatego Wednesday.

OTEGO – Unatego tested Greene’s unbeaten record until the final 20 seconds of the game. Erin Smith and Liz Wentlent each made a pair of free throws to wrap up the Trojans’ 11th straight win this season.
“We knew it would be a tough game, and they ran some gimmicky defenses that had us frustrated a little,” said Greene coach Dave Gorton. “I have to credit our team. They are mentally tough and don’t get rattled.”

WORCESTER – G-MU ended its season-long winless streak Friday night getting a career-high 27 points from sophomore Tanya Barnes.
Barnes hit a three-pointer at the third-quarter buzzer that upped the Raiders’ lead to 30-17. “We’ve had a lot of close games, and we weren’t able to sneak one out,” said G-MU coach Jim Johnson. “We didn’t have to do that tonight. It was nice because we shot the ball a little better. I didn’t realize Tanya had 27 points. It was a quiet 27 and everyone seemed to play well.”

OTEGO – Greene finished Saturday’s game on a 15-0 run to improve to 8-4 overall on the season.
Dan Carlin scored in transition for the first four points, and Evan Moxley went 4-for-4 from the foul line during the spurt. In the fourth quarter, the Trojans were a combined 8-for-10 from the foul line. “Any time you can get a league win on the road, it’s huge,” said Greene coach Jeff Paske. “This is a nice win.”
Booker Davis finished 9-for-11 from the field in an 18-point, seven-rebound evening. Carlin added 15 points and six steals, and Scott Gorton bucketed 12 points. Greene hosts league unbeaten Walton on Tuesday.

HARPURSVILLE – Harpursville had no answers on defense for Oxford seniors Alex Champlin and Brett Trask.
Champlin scored 24 points in the first half on his way to a career-high 31 points. Trask hit four three-pointers in the first half, and was 5-for-6 in the game from behind the arc to finish with 15 points.
After trading the lead with the Hornets for most of the first quarter, the Blackhawks clamped down the rest of the half. In the second quarter, Oxford outscored the host club 27-0.
“We made a minor adjustment in our defense, and by the look of things, I guess it was a major adjustment,” said Oxford coach Tim Davis.
Champlin added eight rebounds and five assists in the contest. “Alex and Brett shot it well tonight – they were on fire,” Davis said.

WEST WINFIELD – Unbeaten Mt. Markham turned back S-E’s fourth-quarter comeback effort scoring the game’s final nine points in Saturday’s Center State Conference game.
The Marauders (4-8), down 17 points to start the fourth, closed to within six points at 46-40 after a trio of three-pointers from senior Cody Schraft. Schraft would foul out soon after, and that consequently ended the rally.
“We didn’t shoot it well (16-for-56), but we had opportunities against a good team,” said S-E coach Kevin Vibbard. “We were right with them until the end.”

“We lost our poise for a little while. They rushed tempo, and we didn’t manage it well,” said G-MU coach Bill Hartman of the fourth. “We settled down, and did a nice job making foul shots at the end.”
