Greene celebrates senior night with school records

GREENE – Greene broke school records in the opening 200 medley relay and closing 400 free relay, and George Flanagan set a new school mark in the 200 individual medley in Greene’s victory on senior recognition night Thursday.
Flanagan was part of the opening 200 medley win (1:50.71) that included Patrick Kelsey, Logan Mowatt, and Jacob Owens. Owens, Kelsey, Joe Gulat, and Dylan Detweiler set the low mark in the 400-free relay (3:41.94).
Flanagan’s winning time in the individual medley was 2:18.86. “We set school records, it was our 42nd straight MAC win, and our seniors were recognized,” said Greene coach Mike Platta. “I should go out and buy a lottery ticket. It was that type of night.”
Jason Hollings (diving), Alex Trass (500 free), and Patrick Daniels (100 breaststroke) added wins for Greene.
Kurt Rogler won two events for the Makos.

WATERVILLE – Brett Baumgarten and Robert Hughes went a combined 4-for-4 from the foul line over the final 22 seconds to seal a win over Sherburne-Earlville Thursday.
S-E senior Brett Nelson made a free throw with 28 seconds remaining to draw his team within 42-41. “We just aren’t making enough plays at the end to win games,” said S-E coach Kevin Vibbard. “Plus, we were down 13-2 at the start of the game. You can’t expect to come back and win in those situations.”
Sean Boise led the Marauders (4-10) with 14 points, and Nelson along with Caleb Brown scored nine apiece. S-E hosts Hamilton next Thursday.

BAINBRIDGE – Oxford scored 51 points in the first half on 21-of-32 shooting, and forced 21 B-G turnovers in building a sizable first-half lead Thursday night.
“They’re very good and I like the way they play,” said B-G coach Ben Nelson of the Blackhawks. “Unless they have a letdown, they should win our league and have a good chance at sectionals. They could have scored a hundred against us tonight if they wanted.”
Cory Seiler paced the Blackhawks (11-3), winners of eight straight games, with 22 points. Alex Champlin charted 19 markers, and Tom Gould 14.

CHENANGO FORKS – Norwich’s Dustin Jenkins just missed the third 300 game in Tornado history rolling a 299 in the second game on his way to a meet-high 698 series Thursday at Chenango Forks.
Jenkins was solid on his first 10 balls, crossed over for a strike in the 11th frame, and left a solid six pin on his final ball. Ben Barnes added a 598 triple for the Tornado.
Norwich is at Chenango Valley tomorrow.

The Golden Knights cinched up the victory at 140 pounds – the next to last match – with a pinfall. “I’ve never seen this many matches come down to the last one or two kids,” said S-E coach Brian Hicks. “It’s the fourth time it’s happened to us this year, and we’ve lost all four. We’re hanging with good teams, but we can’t seem to get over the hump.”
Down to the host team early, S-E rallied getting three straight victories from Greg DuVall (125), Derek Ferris (130), and Daniel Hicks (135) closing the gap to 28-27.
