NEW BERLIN – Delhi focused much of its defensive attention on UV’s leading scorer, Hannah Johnson. The rest of the Storm players made the Bulldogs pay.
Four UV players had at least eight points led by Melissa Friedel’s 10-point evening, as the Storm ended a five-game losing streak.
UV had struggled in its previous losses falling behind at halftime, often by double digits. “It was a whole different talk at halftime,” said UV coach Brandi Backus.
Delhi played a box-and-one defense, with the “one” guarding Johnson all over the floor. Johnson still scored nine points to go with 11 rebounds, and Emily Sugar along with Charlie Weidman notched eight-point evenings. Sugar also pocketed five steals. “This was the most balanced scoring we’ve had all season. Everybody stepped up their play,” Backus said.
