SHERBURNE – Sherburne’s recently-formed ambulance committee has been investigating options for creating a revenue recovery system, and according to Mayor William Acee, it’s leaning toward creating a municipal-based system.

The changes to the Sherburne ambulance service wouldn’t alter the daily operations of the system, but by creating a municipal-based system, the department would be able to charge for ambulance calls, creating a revenue recovery stream they hope would allow them to eventually hire part-time help.

The village has been discussing options for a revenue recovery system for several months, but there has been some debate about whether a municipal-based system or a not-for-profit system would be the best option. The ambulance committee was created to determine the best course of action. Made up of 11 members, including village and town board members, fire department members and residents, the committee held its second meeting Tuesday and began leaning toward the municipal-based system.

“The committee is moving toward the village-run ambulance. The next step for the committee is to try to put some numbers on a spread sheet to see what the future costs might look like,” said Acee. While the committee is leaning toward the village-based system, Acee still had some concerns with that option.
