Greene 3, Harpursville 0

HARPURSVILLE – Matching up against higher-seeded Harpursville, Greene swept the Hornets in the first round of Class C sectional play, 25-23, 25-18, 25-20 Tuesday.

Rebecca Hanrahan had nine aces, Haley MacLaren led with 10 assists, and Devyn Staley spiked eight kills for the Trojans, who play Sidney Thursday. The Warriors defeated Unadilla Valley.

“This match ultimately came down to serving,” said Greene coach Michelle Schieve. “Our serving was on tonight, and Harpursville’s was not.”

The Trojans combined for 25 total aces over the three games led by Hanrahan, and Jennifer Burrows who served six aces.
