Results of rail study to be released next week
NORWICH – Area residents interested in the future of Chenango County’s rail corridor will have two opportunities to hear the results of a recent study designed to explore potential uses for the line.
In response to public concern regarding the future of the rail corridor, Development Chenango (formerly the Chenango County Area Corporation) commissioned a study to explore potential uses for the rail corridor last year. The results of the study, conducted by TranSystems/Stone Consulting over an 8-month period in 2008, will be presented during two stakeholder meetings next week.
The meetings, which are open to the public, will take place at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 26 and 9 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 27 in the Commerce Chenango offices on the second floor of The Eaton Center.
“We hope this provides ample opportunity for all interested parties to hear the results of the nearly year-long effort, and discuss the potential for redevelopment of the rail line,” said Commerce Chenango President Maureen Carpenter in a letter to stakeholders.
