Sherburne Earlville adopts budget with increase of 3.9 percent

SHERBURNE – The Sherburne-Earlville Board of Education adopted the budget for the 2009/2010 school year this week, calling for a total spending increase of 3.9 percent.

On Monday, the board adopted the budget of $27,833,948. That’s an increase of $1,270,734 from last year’s budget of $26,563,214. The budget will require a total tax levy of $6,254,983, an increase of 2.9 percent from last year. For the last few years, the district has had a tax levy increase of around 3.95 percent.

Assistant Superintendent Thomas Strain explained that despite the economy, Sherburne-Earlville did not cut any programs to keep the budget low. “We’re not making any drastic cuts,” he said.
