Wine Tasting fundraiser at 6 On The Square
OXFORD – You’re invited Saturday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m., to join 6 On The Square (6OTS) as wine makers Mark and Sandy Stacey, owners of the Black Bear Winery, are back by popular demand with their unique and flavorful fruit wines, honey meads, and hard ciders. This an evening wine tasting fund raiser for 6 On The Square, Inc. Tickets are $25 per person which covers an assortment of delights (including live music) for the senses.
Experience a truly interesting variety of wines, in a fun and casual, party-like atmosphere. Light education is provided from the Black Bear Winery while sipping on a diversified offering of wines from dry and delicate to dessert-sweet.
Have you ever tasted Black Bear’s Dandelion wine? It’s dry, light and floral. You may favor the red “Ruby,” another dry wine, but a complex combination of cranberry and raspberry. Prefer semi-sweet wines? You’ll get to sample the distinctive Blackberry and “Blushing Goose,” a tart gooseberry wine. Raspberry Melomel is a semi-dry raspberry and honey mead. Cranapple Zip –an apple cider with a tart “zip” of cranberries. On the sweeter side is Sweet Raspberry –a fruity treat and Cracklin’ Maple - a hard apple cider with a nice maple finish. If that’s not enough to pique your curiosity, there’s more!
You may be familiar with some of the Black Bear’s line of unique fruit wines but now, five years in the making, they offer new essences of ripe berries. You’ll get to taste the extremely aromatic, fruity, light, dry strawberry; a semi-sweet, tongue tingling hard cider and “Starlite,” a sweet apple- blueberry with subtle complexities. There’s also a Mead called Metheglin, a sweet honey mead with a hint of mint. A taste of one and you’ll want to try them all…and now you can.
Each guest will receive a Black Bear Winery glass from which to taste the many wines, sparkling hard ciders, and honey meads. You’ll also be able to try an icy, delicious blender recipe, called a “Brown Bear Smoothie,” made with Sweet Raspberry wine, chocolate ice cream, and real raspberries! You also get to take the glass home at the end of the evening, free!
To compliment the offerings from Black Bear Winery, you will be able to choose from many local savory food appetizers and dessert goodies to go with the sweet wines too.
As an amazing treat for your ears, live music will be performed by Chenango County guitarists, Ron Palmer and Mark Sherwood. You may know Ron for his guitar work years ago with singer/songwriter Harry Chapin. He is a life long finger-style guitarist who describes what he does as “organic matter.” Mark is known for his chord structures and unique melodies and always strives to transcend the concept of who he is as a player. Together these two very talented musicians brilliantly fuse jazz to classical to shades of rock, which will add an elegant ambiance to the venue.
You may participate in the 6OTS raffles -even if you don’t attend the event! There will be unique gift certificates to win from local businesses and other items including a cheese-cutting board handmade by John Knapp, Knapp Knoll Woodworks, of Oxford.
While you’re enjoying the wonderful tastes and smells of the wine and food, you’ll also be able to enjoy viewing the fiber art exhibit of extraordinary “Quilted Landscapes,” wall hangings by Oxford artist, Elena Marin.
Visit the website at www.6onthesquare.org for tickets and future event information. All the proceeds from this fund raiser will benefit music and arts programming at 6OTS, a not-for-profit, volunteer-based, community music and arts venue.
6OTS is located at 6 LaFayette Park in downtown Oxford.
