SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville opened its season with a seven-run first, and went on to defeat Norwich in a non-league matchup Wednesday.
Lindsay Hodges struck for a three-run homer in the first inning, and struck out a career-high 18 in picking up the three-hit victory.
Karli Harris had three hits and three RBI, Morgan Reid, Fran Magro, and Sam Crandall added two hits apiece, and Liz Farrow scored three runs.
Skye Ingraham doubled for Norwich (0-1).

Tyler Wildfeir, Andrew Delmar, Chris Lanza, and Jon Scofield all had three hits for the Raiders, who finished with 19 base knocks in the contest. Delmar led with four ribbies and Lanza drove in three runs.
Wildfeir pitched five innings for the victory. G-MU plays South Kortright on Tuesday.

OTEGO – Emily Woodford captured three individual events for Oxford, Katie Woodford added a first-place, and Dillon Crandall gave the Blackhawks’ boys its lone triumph in a three-way meet at Unatego Wednesday.
Emily Woodford was tops in the 200- and 400-meter dash, while also generating the top distance in the triple jump. Twin sister Katie ran the first sub-13-second time of the season in the Midstate Athletic Conference timing first in 12.95.
Crandall ran a 2:22 to win the 800-meter race.
