Churches hold Union Service and procession

Each year on Palm Sunday three downtown churches have a Union Service and procession. In this photo (left to right) the Rev. Jeff Hale (Broad Street United Methodist Church), the Rev. Jim Horton (First Baptist Church), the Rev. Joe Connolly (United Church of Christ, First Congregational) and the Rev. Nancy Hale (Broad Street United Methodist Church) lead the start of the procession out the doors of the United Church of Christ after the blessing of the palms. Parishioners of all three churches processed across West Park to the First Baptist Church where they stopped for prayer. The procession moved up North Broad Street to the Methodist Church for the reading of the Passion, prayers, hymns and choir anthems.
