Greene 8, Sus Valley 8 (8 innings)
GREENE – Greene rallied three times against Sus Valley, and ended in a tie with its STAC opponent as the game was called due to darkness.
“This one felt like a win,” said Greene coach Dave Gorton. “We came back time after time and showed a lot of guts.”
Trailing the Sabers 4-1, Greene plated five in the fifth to take the lead. Dan Carlin stroked a two-run double, while Braeden Williams and Brendan Kinne added RBI singles.
After SV moved in front in the seventh, 7-6, Brian Day had a two-out RBI single to tie the game. Sus Valley again took the lead in the eighth, but Nic Puglisi delivered a timely two-out single to right field scoring Scott Gorton to deadlock the game.
“They made us hit the ball and score our runs,” Gorton said. “We had to earn everything.”
Gorton and Williams had three-hit days, and Carlin added two hits and two ribbies. Greene (1-1-1) hosts Oxford Tuesday.

The Crimson Knights scored five runs in the last of the seventh to tie the game at 8-8. Corey Mohrein had a two-run double, and Victor Coronado’s bases-clearing triple knotted the game up.
Mohrein had the game-winning single in the eighth scoring Jacob Arnold. “It’s been a short season, but we’ve played from behind and this team pieces it together at the right time,” said Afton coach Ron Rapp. “We’ve come up with clutch hits when we needed them.”

Dustin Rutz pitched three-plus innings of scoreless relief to pick up the victory. Parsons, Eric Oefelein and Rutz combined to allow just five Delhi hits. “Pitching was the biggest difference in this game,” said B-G coach Pete Mansheffer. “When you throw strikes and let the defense play behind you, it’s a whole different world.”

Greene 4, Afton 2
AFTON – Greene won for the first time in three games this season defeating traditional softball power Afton on Thursday.
The Trojans scored four runs in the top of the sixth – two on errors and one on Rebecca Hanrahan’s RBI fielder’s choice. Logan Montgomery’s pinch-hit RBI single proved the difference maker. “This win is huge for us,” said Greene coach Rick Smith, whose club lost its first two games by 2-1 counts. “Our ambition was to play tough and see what happens. We put the ball in play and put pressure on their defense. It turned out good.”
Ashley Winans had a two-run double in the sixth, Afton’s only runs against Greene freshman hurler Hanrahan. Hanrahan fanned 10, walked none, and gave up just four hits for the victory.
