Easter Bunny plans Norwich play date
NORWICH – The Easter Bunny will make a special trip to Norwich Saturday, just in time for the Norwich Fire Department Maydole Hose Company’s first Easter Egg Hunt.
More than 1,500 eggs filled with candy and other prizes will be hidden at East and West Parks for the event, which is supported by both the Norwich Merchants Association and the Norwich Business Improvement District.
“We invite all parents to hop on over to East and West Parks with their small children on Saturday morning to enjoy the egg hunt and a visit from the Easter Bunny, too,” said BID Executive Director Pegi LoPresti. “Be sure to bring your camera to capture the fun.”
The festivities begin at 10 a.m. in East Park for children four and under. Kids ages five to eight will hunt for eggs starting at 10:30 a.m. in West Park.
LoPresti said her organization is pleased to be involved in the effort to bring an Easter Egg Hunt back to downtown Norwich, a sentiment echoed by Anna McLaughlin from the Norwich Merchant’s Association. The two give full credit to the Maydole Hose Company for the idea of bringing back the family-friendly event.
“They had the volunteers, but they were looking for assistance with the other details, and the BID and Merchant's Association was happy to help,” explained LoPresti.
“Their wish is to begin this community event again after it has had a few years of absence in the downtown,” explained McLaughlin.
Local businesses and community groups have donated items for the event, including Price Chopper, which contributed approximately 250 candy-filled eggs for the hunt.
There will be large prizes as well. The Maydole Hose Company has donated two bicycles for the event, which McLaughlin said will be “hidden in two special surprise eggs,” and both the Merchant Association and BID will give away Easter baskets.
