City to apply for third round of Restore NY funding

NORWICH – The City of Norwich is looking to apply for grant funding through the third round of the Restore NY program to rehabilitate the former Frames Unlimited building, located at 24 East Main Street next to the post office. Successful in receiving round two funding for the construction of three houses this summer, the city proposes to rehabilitate the now vacant mixed-use building to reestablish a viable first-floor commercial space and residential use of the second floor, probably consisting of two one-bedroom apartments.
A public hearing on the matter will be held at 7 p.m. on Aril 21 at Norwich City Court. The public is encouraged to attend and comment, since the showing of a high level of public support is likely to enhance the city’s chances of receiving funding, according to Mayor Joseph Maiurano. Comments for the record may also be submitted in writing directly to the City of Norwich Office of Planning and Community Development, One City Plaza, Norwich, NY 13815.
