EOH galleries open two new exhibits

EARLVILLE – The EOH East Gallery welcomes Richard Deon, who exhibits a collection of his paintings and prints in STARE DECISIS that will run from April 18 through May 23. For those who did not take Latin in high school… STARE DECISIS (STAYR-ee di-SY-sis) translates to “let the decision stand.”
Richard provides this humorous comment on how he began his exploration resulting in this body of his works: “My seventh grade social studies instructor issued me a peculiar American history textbook. When I opened it, I discovered that a student from a prior year had defaced the illustrations with a ballpoint pen. Mustaches and eyeglasses were drawn on portraits of historical figures; warplanes and speedboats were added to landscapes like the Boston tea party. Delighted with this unexpected comic book, I took editorial control and began extending the illustrations into the margins adding buildings and creating new scenes. Within a few weeks, I was disciplined and issued a clean textbook, a bill, and a stern warning.”
In the West Gallery, the TeensART exhibition exhibits over a hundred teen works from area schools and individual teens.
The exhibits run through May 23. The EOH galleries are open Tuesday-Friday, 10am-5pm and Saturday, noon to 3 p.m. Visit www.earlvilleoperahouse.com or call (315) 691-3550 for more information.
