Oneonta boys, girls sweep Tornado

NORWICH – Oneonta’s boys dominated the sprinting events, and the Yellowjackets’ girls won five of six field events in a sweep of the Purple Tornado squads Tuesday at Norwich High School.
Mike Reilly (110, 400 hurdles), along with Steven Spittler (800, 1,600 meters) came home with a pair of wins to lead NHS.
Meanwhile, Oneonta swept the 100-meter dash and finished one-two in the 200-meter race to help build its lead.
Sarah Bonnell’s four overall first-place finishes paced Norwich’s girls, who captured seven of the 11 running events. Kayla May added three victories for Norwich including a sweep of the two hurdles events.
“They swept the 3,000 meters and the triple jump, that was the difference in the girls’ meet,” said Norwich co-head coach, Paul Sims.
Norwich runs at the Owego Invitational on Saturday.

S-E wins two
WESTMORELAND – Sherburne-Earlville’s Dan Palmiter and Noah Huff picked up individual victories in a three-way meet with Westmoreland and Waterville Tuesday.
Palmiter won the 800 meters in a season-best 2:19.8, and Huff won the 3,200 meters in a season-low time of 11:32.8.

Baseball

Windsor 9, Norwich 5
WINDSOR – Playing its first game in 19 days, the rust was apparent on Norwich’s game, who committed five errors in a road loss to Windsor.
The Black Knights expanded a three-run lead to seven in the sixth inning with Dylan Kay’s two-run double the key blow. “Unfortunately, we made some errors at inopportune times,” said Norwich coach John Martinson. “We had runners in scoring position, but we weren’t able to drive in runs in key situations.”
Dan Buchert was 3-for-4 to lead Windsor, and Kay had two hits and two runs scored.
Christian Hotaling finished 2-for-3 with a single RBI and a run scored for Norwich (0-2), who play at Chenango Forks today.

Afton 12, Oxford 1
AFTON – Afton scored in every inning but its last at-bat, and moved to 8-0 on the season with a convincing win over MAC division rival Oxford Tuesday.
Casey Mohrein allowed four Oxford hits and struck out 14 for the complete-game victory.
Victor Coronado hit a first-pitch solo homer in as Afton’s lead-off hitter in the first inning, and went 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI. Adam Rupakus and Cameron Oswald added matching 2-for-3 days with a pair of RBI.
Afton did not commit an error and have made just eight miscues all season. “We continue to do the same things each game and we’re playing good defense,” said Afton coach Ron Rapp. “We don’t have pitchers that mow people down, so we have to play good defense.”
Kyle Ferrington’s RBI double in the sixth scored Chris Covey with Oxford’s lone run.

HARPURSVILLE – Harpursville broke open a scoreless game with five runs in the third to defeat B-G (2-4) Tuesday.
Chad Baxter allowed six hits in a complete-game victory, and Vince Gatto laced a two-run triple in the third.
Cody Lake had a two-run single in the sixth for B-G,while Dustin Rutz and Mark Buchanan each went 2-for-3.
The Bobcats are at Hancock today.

WINDSOR – Windsor pitcher Cara Martin was perfect against the Purple Tornado (0-5) Tuesday night.
The Black Knights twirler threw a perfect game striking out 17 as nary a NHS batter reached base.
Jessica Bump went 4-for-4 to lead Windsor’s batters, and she added an RBI triple as part of an eight-run third inning.
Norwich is at Chenango Forks today.

Boys’ Tennis

Sidney 4, B-G 1
BAINBRIDGE – Sidney extended its five-year-plus unbeaten run in the Midstate Athletic Conference with a victory at B-G Tuesday.
The Bobcats (1-2) picked up their lone team point at second doubles with Kyle Werth and Dylan Whaley prevailing in three sets.
B-G hosts Oxford Thursday.
