S-E 20, Mount Markham 4
SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville’s bats picked up where it left off the night before cranking out 20 hits to blast visiting Mount Markham Wednesday.
“That was by far the best we’ve hit all season,” said S-E coach Brian Hicks. “We’ve gotten in trouble with slower pitchers. We made the kids wait and keep their weight back, and they were spraying the ball all over the field today.”
Caleb Brown, Stephen Buddenhagen, Mike McCredy, and Joe Moses had three hits, and Brown, McCredy, and Buddenhagen added three RBI. Buddenhagen and Phil Price also homered for (S-E), both to left-centerfield.
Tuesday, the Marauders rallied for three runs in the seventh to tie Canastota, then erupted for seven in the eighth to prevail 14-7.
Moses lashed a two-run triple in the seventh, and Todd Gibbs’ RBI single scored the tying run.
In the eighth, Moses, Gibbs, and Brown all had RBI singles. “We were playing poor baseball in the beginning of the game, and we weren’t doing anything at the plate,” Hicks said of the win over Canastota. “Once we made the right adjustments at the plate, you could see the difference.”
Mike Doscher pitched five innings of relief for his first win of the season.

CHENANGO BRIDGE – The lead changed hands multiple times, and CV had the last word after Brian Stinson’s RBI double in the eighth scored Brian Topa with the winner Wednesday.
Norwich (1-6) forced extra innings when Lucas Follett laid down a suicide squeeze bunt to score Richie Bonney. “It was a tremendous game and both teams were able to fight back,” said Norwich coach John Martinson. “They executed at the end when it was necessary. It was a real heartbreaker, and it’s too bad someone had to come away with a loss.”
Topa led CV with three hits.
Follett and Josh Borfitz had two hits for Norwich, and Mackay Hotaling added two RBI.

S-E 8, Mount Markham 1
SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville bounced back from consecutive losses rolling past Mount Markham Wednesday.
Brenda Hoefler, Karli Harris, and Lindsay Hodges had two hits apiece for the Marauders (4-2), and Hodges tossed a one-hitter on the mound striking out 11 and walking none.

Morgan Reid drove in two RBI for the Marauders as well.
Tuesday night, Canastota banged out 13 hits, the most allowed by Hodges in three years in a 7-1 victory over S-E.
