Windsor 10, Norwich 6
NORWICH – Windsor regrouped from a five-run deficit to defeat the Purple Tornado Wednesday afternoon.
Dave Goetz completed a three-run fourth inning – and the comeback – with a two-run double making it 6-5. Jake Doolittle added an RBI double in the fifth as Windsor improved to 14-1 on the season.
“We had a great start, but (Goetz, Windsor pitcher) did a nice job settling in,” said Norwich coach John Martinson. “They are a superb defensive club and well-rounded at the plate and in the field.”
Paddy Law had a three-run double in the opening inning for Norwich (2-8). Tim Clark, Richie Bonney, and Christian Hotaling added two hits apiece for NHS.

S-E 6, Sauquoit Valley 0
SAUQUOIT – Sherburne-Earlville won its seventh straight division game as starter Jake Sampson twirled a six-hit shutout victory Wednesday.
Sampson and Joe Moses led at the plate with 3-for-4 days, and Moses had two run-saving plays in right field to preserve the lead and the shutout.
He snagged a deep fly with two runners on in the third inning, then, after making a grab with the bases loaded in the fifth, threw a one-hopper to home to catch the SV baserunner for an inning-ending double play. “(Joe) probably saved us four runs today,” said S-E coach Brian Hicks.
Moses had a two-run double in the second inning to put S-E (7-0, 10-3) on the board. Sampson added two runs scored and an RBI.

DeRuyter 11, Otselic Valley 6
SOUTH OTSELIC – Otselic Valley lost for the first time in six games this season Wednesday at home.
The Vikings (5-1) fell behind 8-0 before two late-inning rallies made the final score respectable. Along the way, the OV defense was charged with seven errors.
“We just committed too many errors to give ourselves a chance,” said Vikings coach Dave Loomis. “DeRuyter is a good club and I’m pretty sure we can play with them. I just hope we can field the ball more soundly the next time.”
Jamin Selan had two RBI for OV, while Dave Cerasani finished 2-for-3.

Greene 4, Unatego 3
GREENE – Greene avenged a one-run loss to Unatego from earlier this season grabbing the lead in the third inning and hanging on for the win.
Brendan Kinne pitched five innings for the victory, and Paul King added two scoreless innings of relief for the save. “Our pitchers easily had their best game all season,” said Greene coach Dave Gorton. “And we played fantastic defense behind them. We feel we have nine legitimate hitters, so when we get this type of pitching and defense, we can play with anybody.”
Braeden Williams and Gage Crumb had RBI hits in the second inning. Dan Carlin plated one run in the third with a triple, and scored the game-winning run on a throwing error.

AFTON – Afton capitalized on Deposit’s mistakes in the sixth inning breaking a 4-4 tie with five runs to win Wednesday’s MAC Division II game.
A dropped fly ball in left field with runners on second and third scored the go-ahead run for Afton (12-2), and a second run came in with the bases loaded when a throw home for a force-out was dropped. Casey Mohrein capped the inning lacing a two-run double.
“It was an excellent game that went back and forth,” said Afton coach Ron Rapp. “We just capitalized on their two errors in the sixth inning.
Mike Muller had two hits for Afton including a two-run homer in the second inning. Paul Hamilton also had two hits for the Crimson Knights.

Cody Satkowski pitched a complete-game victory for the Wildcats and had three hits. Cody Wellman also had three hits in the win. “We didn’t show any intensity the first three innings. We didn’t have our focus, and it showed,” said B-G coach Pete Mansheffer. “To our credit, we played better the second half of the game, and Cody Lake did an outstanding job out of the bullpen.”
Lake pitched 3 1-3 innings of scoreless relief before running out of steam in the seventh inning.

“It was back fourth the whole game, and we were competitive right up to their last at-bat,” said UV coach Tom Locke. “Both pitchers threw strikes, it was just a matter of which team made more plays.”
Mike Guerriere went 3-for-4 with four RBI for Sidney, who benefited from seven UV errors to go with 13 hits.
Justin Peek led UV with two hits and two RBI, and Ian Davis went 2-for-3.

Sauquoit Valley 7, S-E 6 (10 innings)
SAUQUOIT – Sauquoit Valley scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings, and prevailed in the tenth inning under international tiebreaker rules.
In the tenth inning, a baserunner is automatically placed at second base. The Marauders’ runner, Brenda Hoefler, scored for her team in the top half of the inning on a passed ball.
SV was able to load the bases with one out, and Kelsey Walton’s bloop single to right field scored the tying and winning runs. “It was one of our better games, except for the final outcome,” said S-E coach Scott Fitzpatrick, who said it was the second time this year his team gave up four runs in the final inning to give up the advantage.
Sam Crandall, Lindsay Hodges, and Liz Farrow had two hits for S-E, and Megan Record drove in a run with a triple.

Sidney 8, Unadilla Valley 6
NEW BERLIN – Unadilla Valley made headway versus the Warriors narrowing the gap in a two-run loss to the Warriors Wednesday.
Last week, Sidney picked up a comfortable 12-2 victory. “We played well this game, just not well enough to win,” said UV coach Brandi Backus.
Sidney’s four-run second inning in which Dani Gravel had a two-run single proved the difference in the game, Backus said.
Hannah Benson and Leslie Barnes went 2-for-3 to lead UV’s hitters.

Norwich scored three in the second inning getting a two-run double from Shelby Condon and an RBI single from Megan McAvoy. Condon and McAvoy each had two hits for Norwich.
“We did make better contact this game and we’re at least making the other team field the ball,” said Norwich coach Melissa Tackabury. “That’s a big difference.”

Haley MacLaren went 2-for-2 with an RBI single in Greene’s four-run second inning, and Hanrahan added two hits.
Hanrahan now has 201 strikeouts this season, but the story was an error-free defensive effort. “Our infield and outfield played phenomenal tonight,” said Greene coach Rick Smith. “Unatego made good contact, and we were flawless. Tonight was a good test for us.”
