Earlville Opera House presents Mother’s Day tea and fashion show
EARLVILLE – The Earlville Opera House and Black Cat Antiques and Gifts have teamed up to present a unique and fun Mother’s Day weekend event. At 2 p.m. on Saturday, a Mother’s Day Tea and Fashion Show will be presented in the Arts Cafe at the Earlville Opera House.
Ten models, wearing two outfits each, will present vintage fashions from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s. Each model will walk the runway in their first outfit. A brief intermission will follow as the models prepare for their second turn.
“The Opera House was trying to figure out a fundraiser and they had pretty much decided on a Mother’s Day tea,” said EOH member and owner of Black Cat Antiques, Dode Page. Page said she had the idea to incorporate a vintage fashion show into the event. “A lot of us were skeptical about the event at first, not knowing if there would be any interest,” Page said, but already the event is sold out.
Models, selected from Earlville and the neighboring areas, range in age from teenagers to women in their early 40s. While a few of the models have experience doing dance and drama, the rest are new to the spotlight. Page said she doesn’t expect the models to be experts. She is more concerned that everyone acts normal, confident and keeps a smile on their face.
“I think it should be a lot of fun,” Page said. The models aren’t the only one who will be trying something new for the event. Page, who isn’t fond of public speaking, will be acting as the events emcee.
Giving the interest the event has seen so far, Page said she hopes to make the tea and fashion show an annual event. “We may do things a little different each year to keep things interesting, but we do hope to do this again next year,” Page said.
The Mother’s Day event is $12 for EOH members and $15 for non-members. The event will serve as a fundraiser for the EOH. For more information about events at the EOH call (315) 691-3550 or visit the web site at www.earlvilleoperahouse.com.
