Local Legions take part in ‘Moving Wall’ exhibit

SHERBURNE – Members of the Sherburne American Legion Family at Post #876 will join about 400 veterans from Central New York who are volunteering their time and services to host The Moving Wall exhibit in Munnsville next month.

The traveling exhibit features a half-scale replica of the Vietnam Memorial of Washington, D.C. It will be on display from June 25-29 at the Stockbridge Valley Central School, 6011 Williams Rd.

It’s the first time that The Moving Wall has been displayed in Madison County and only the third time it has been in the region during 25 years of crisscrossing the country.

The Munnsville American Legion Post 54 is the sponsor of the event.

“As a fellow Legion Post, they have asked for our help and we feel honored to be involved in such a meaningful endeavor. We have several vets from that era,” said Elizabeth Boise, a representative of the Sherburne American Legion.

The Moving Wall is a tribute and honor to the veterans who were killed, became POWs, or are still missing in action during the Vietnam Era (1959-1975). All 58,621 names of them are engraved on it. The Wall stands six feet tall and is 250 feet in length. It will be manned 24-hours a day so that veterans, and the families and friends of the fallen, may visit at any time.
