Greene 8, Delhi 0
GREENE – Greene senior Megan McDermott certainly made the most of her first opportunity to pitch this season.
McDermott, last year’s starting pitcher, deferred to freshman Rebecca Hanrahan the first 16 games while recovering from an off-season injury. She made a triumphant return to the mound Monday tossing a no-hitter against the Bulldogs striking out 10 and walking two. “She’s been throwing the last four days in practice and she’s looked good,” said Greene coach Rick Smith. “I wanted to give her a chance to pitch a home game. She’s been a great teammate through her injury and she was going to be our number one pitcher until she was injured. What a nice tandem (of pitchers) we’ll have going into sectionals.”
Greene (15-2), who clinched the MAC Division One title last week, received three hits, three runs scored and one RBI from Caitlin Willis. McDermott helped herself at the plate with two hits and one ribbie.
Greene is at B-G Wednesday.

“If we had everyone available for the boys, we probably would have won,” said Norwich co-coach Paul Sims, who added that the pole vault was not contested, an event NHS would have likely won as well.
Mike Reilly had two firsts and two seconds for Norwich winning the 110-meter hurdles and the long jump.
Kayla May swept both hurdles races for Norwich, and Sarah Bonnell continued to impress in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, and long jump with a sweep of those three events.
“It’s been the same way all season,” Sims said of the results in the distance events. “We have no shortage of sprinters, but we haven’t yet developed our distance runners.”
