City disposes of surplus property, equipment

NORWICH – Spring is in the air, and the City of Norwich is cleaning house by disposing of several pieces of surplus property and equipment.

On Tuesday night, the Norwich Common Council authorized the sale of properties at 49 Front St., 18 Hickory St. and 3 State St.

The city accepted an offer from New York State Electric and Gas for a portion of the property located at 49 Front St. NYSEG offered the city $15,000 for the parcel. NYSEG will also be granted a gas pipeline easement through the city’s remaining portion of the property.

The NYSEG offer has been on the table for about a month and a resolution authorizing the sale of the property was initially tabled so that it could be amended by the city attorney. Mayor Joseph Maiurano commended the council for their cooperation and work on the sale, saying, “This resolution is an example of the working together to ensure agreements are handled appropriately.”
