SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville rode the commanding pitching performance of senior left-hander Caleb Brown into the second round of the Section III, Class B playoffs with a shutout win Tuesday.
Brown won his 10th game of the season pitching a one-hitter. He struck out 15 to put him over 100 strikeouts on the season and did not walk a batter.
“He just dominated them today and was spotting the ball wherever he wanted,” said S-E coach Brian Hicks. “Their coach told me that his kids had that deer-in-the-headlights look at the plate.”
Winners of 14 straight games, S-E broke the ice in the second inning when Mike McCredy led off with a triple, and scored on Nate Kline’s fielder’s choice.
Derek Ferris’ second hit of the day drove in McCredy in the fourth, and Kline reached on an error in the sixth, moved to third on a wild pick-off attempt, and scored on Joe Moses’ single.
The Marauders (17-3) host the winner of Canastota and Holland Patent on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

GREENE – Greene reached double-digit victories winning its first game in nearly two weeks Tuesday.
Leading by a run after two innings, the Trojans (10-7-1) opened up their lead with a five-run third. Brian Day’s two-run single keyed the uprising. Day had two hits and three RBI to lead the way. Nate Whittaker and Braeden Williams also had two hits.
“We haven’t played much recently and haven’t won a game in two weeks,” said Greene coach Dave Gorton. “We’ve won games in streaks, and I hope this is the start of another winning streak.”
Alex Kenyon pitched his first complete-game victory using just 68 pitches over the game’s duration, and he allowed just three Deposit singles.
“I thought we would just get a few innings out of (Kenyon), but he got stronger as the game went on and had better command,” Gorton said.

“I think the fifth inning is what really did us in,” summed up OV coach Dave Loomis.
Oriskany took advantage of three OV errors and combined that with three hits to plate four runs raising the lead to 6-0.
Karl Graham had two of Otselic Valley’s three hits in the game. “Their pitcher was around the plate all day, and we did not have one of our better days in the field,” Loomis said.
