BID holds annual dinner on Friday
NORWICH – The Norwich Business Improvement District will hold its annual dinner in conjunction with the Friends of the Park fundraiser on Friday.
This year’s event, themed “An Evening Under the Stars,” will begin with a cocktail hour beginning at 6 p.m. Gourmet dinner and desert, catered by the Canasawacta Country Club, will be served at 7, and there will be dancing to the music of “Splash!” from 8 to 11 p.m. The event will be held under the fancy tent in East Park, downtown Norwich.
According to BID Executive Director Pegi LoPresti, the band “Splash!” has a large following in the Norwich area. “They seem to be popular with the local crowd, and they’ve been seen at a lot of local events,” LoPresti said, explaining the choice for entertainment.
For the last three years, the BID and the Friends of the Park have been collaborating for the annual event. According to LoPresti, this year’s event is especially important, since the Friends of the Parks project to renovate East and West Park is now moving forward. “Eric Larsen will be bringing people up to date on the Friends of the Park project,” LoPresti said. Larsen, a Friends of the Park committee member, will explain where the project is in terms of fund raising and the time table for the project. “We expect to begin the project in the fall of this year,” LoPresti said.
In addition to the update from Friends of the Park, the BID will use the annual dinner to present its annual report and to honor this year’s recipient of the BID’s Commitment to Community Award. This year, the award will be presented to Chris and Missy Hayes of Hayes Office Products.
The Hayes Family have been in business in Norwich for generations. In addition to the dedication to the Norwich community, the award will give the BID a chance to highlight the improvements that the couple have made to their business with the help of the Main Street Grant program. Interior and exterior renovations have been made to the building, allowing for facade improvements, the upgrade of office space on the second floor, and a residential space on the third floor.
Anyone wishing to attend the BID annual event must RSVP to the BID office. The cost of attendance is $45 per person for BID members and $50 per person for non-members. “The fee for the event includes dinner, entertainment and beverages for the evening,” LoPresti said. She explained that with all that is available at the event, it really is an inexpensive night out.
The event will be sponsored by the BID and the Friends of the Park. “As always this event would not be possible without the efforts of a few great volunteers who make it happen,” LoPresti said. She thanked all of those volunteers, including Deb Sylstra, Luke Murphy, Gary Brightman, Mary Davis, Eric Larsen, Tom Sutton and Peggy Finnegan.
