Greene PD gets new vehicle

GREENE – The Village of Greene Police Department recently purchased a new 2009 Dodge Durango to replace a five-year old vehicle with 89,000 miles which the village plans to sell by public bid.
According to Greene Police Chief Steve Dutcher, the new vehicle was purchased through state bid for $22,000. An additional $1,200 was spent to transfer the onboard computer, kennel and other equipment from the old Durango and for a new spot light to be installed and lettering to be done by National Sign and Awning of Oxford.
The money to purchase the new Durango came out of the department’s vehicle replacement reserve, Dutcher said. This account is paid into on an annual basis to allow police vehicles to be replaced every five years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.
Dutcher said the Durango is the first vehicle to be fully paid for by village taxpayers in at least 7 years. The 2004 Durango being replaced was paid for 100 percent by a K-9 grant. Fifty percent of the cost of the 2007 Crown Victoria, which Dutcher himself drives, was funded with DWI funds, he added.
The 2004 Durango was declared surplus by the village at the beginning of May and will be sold “as is” by sealed bid. Anyone interested in purchasing the vehicle should contact the Village Office at 656-4500.
A minimum bid of $3,995 will be accepted for the five-year old vehicle, Dutcher said. Arrangements can be made to view the vehicle by contacting the police department, 656-8501.
“Bids will be opened at the June 8 (village) board meeting,” Dutcher explained. According the Village of Greene’s Deputy Clerk Treasurer Teresa Thurston, bids will be accepted until one minute prior to the bid opening, which will occur promptly at 7 p.m. on June 8 in the Village Board Room.
