Afton 13, Charlotte Valley 8
AFTON – Afton won its 15th game of the season jumping on top of Charlotte Valley in the first inning and never looking back in a Section IV, Class D playoff matchup Wednesday.
“We hit the ball sharply, we stole bases, and we were aggressive in advancing when the ball scooted away from their catcher,” said Afton coach Ron Rapp. “Our baserunning really helped us today.”
Chris Anthony had three hits for Afton (15-5), Adam Rupakus had two hits and two RBI, and Victor Coronado finished with two hits, two stolen bases, and one RBI. “They were a pretty solid club and they snuck up on us,” Rapp said of Charlotte Valley. “(Charlotte Valley) was definitely no slouch.”
The Crimson Knights will host the winner of Margaretville-Deposit Friday at 4:30 p.m.

Unatego 16, Greene 5
OTEGO – Five of the first seven Unatego batters reached base either by walk or hit batsmen, and that set off a seven-run opening inning for the Spartans in an opening playoff win over Greene Wednesday.
Overall, Greene’s pitching staff issued 11 combined walks and hit batters, and the defense was charged with six errors. “The problems we had with control really hurt us,” said Greene coach Dave Gorton. “After we had jumped ahead in the first inning, to come back and give away runs was very disappointing for us.”
Josh Lambrecht completed Unatego’s seven-run first inning with a two-run triple. Chet Davis was the lone Spartans player with two hits, and he added three runs scored.
Dan Carlin went 2-for-3 with two runs to lead Greene (10-8-1).
