G-MU 13, Hunter-Tannersville 1
COPES CORNERS – G-MU won its Section IV, Class D opening game with a flurry of runs in the middle innings, Thursday against Hunter-Tannersville.
“It took a while to get going, but once we did, it was all over,” said G-MU coach Jim Johnson. “It was a different type of pitcher than what we’ve been facing, and the first time through the order, it fools you. We hit it hard and pretty often after the fourth inning.”
Trailing 1-0, G-MU put five runs on the board in the bottom of the fourth. Andrew Delmar’s single scored Tyler Wildfeir with the tying run, and Delmar came around to score the go-ahead run after a stolen base and two passed balls. Later in the inning, Cody Luettger had a two-run single.
Delmar used just 84 pitches striking out 11 and walking none. Only two Hunter-Tannersville batters reached base, and the Raiders played error-free ball.
Luettger, Nate Sloan, and Jon Scofield all had two RBI in the victory, the Raiders’ ninth straight.
G-MU (17-3) plays at Hancock today. The Wildcats were the last team to defeat the Raiders winning by a 2-0 shutout four weeks ago.

Seton Catholic Central 16, Oxford 4
VESTAL – Seton Catholic Central erupted for seven runs in the fourth inning to take the lead against Oxford, and eliminate the Blackhawks from the Section IV playoffs Thursday.
Nate Jones hit a two-run double, and Joe Martin completed the big frame with a three-run homer.
Jones finished with three hits and four RBI, and Adrian Nicholas added two doubles and two runs scored.
“Once they got a runner in scoring position, we had trouble throwing strikes,” said Oxford coach Chris Palmer, whose club finished the season 8-10. “They started hitting the ball, and hitting it hard. It all started to snowball on us.”

Holland Patent 8, Sherburne-Earlville 3
SHERBURNE – Holland Patent’s Tyler Mann was indeed “the man” in dealing Sherburne-Earlville its season-ending loss Thursday in the Section III baseball playoffs.
Mann mixed in a sharp-breaking curveball and a hard fastball to keep the Marauders – who were riding a 14-game winning streak – off balance most of the game.
“They were smart with their pitching,” said S-E coach Brian Hicks. “He changed speeds and our kids have not seen a curveball like that all season. We worked hard preparing for a guy who throws hard, but I bet he threw that curve at least 50 percent of the time, and it was nasty.”
Holland Patent scored three runs in the fourth to take a 5-2 lead. Dylan Jones had an RBI double, and Mann completed the inning with a run-scoring single.
Stephen Buddenhagen went 2-for-2 on the S-E side with an RBI and a run scored. “We reached our main goal this season winning our league and going undefeated there,” Hicks said. “We would have liked to have won sectionals, but the kids had a great year, and we had a lot of positive support from the community.”
S-E finishes 17-4.

Adirondack 1, Sherburne-Earlville 0
BOONVILLE – Rachel Hitt did not give up many hits against Sherburne-Earlville Thursday.
Hitt tossed a one-hitter against the Marauders (12-8) striking out 13 and allowing just one S-E runner to second base.
“We had quite a few hard-hit balls, their kids just happened to be standing in the right spot,” said S-E coach Scott Fitzpatrick.
Adirondack loaded the bases in the third inning, and scored the game’s lone run on a bases-loaded walk.
Brenda Hoefler had a single up the middle in the sixth inning to break up Hitt’s no-hitter.
