Voices of Tabernacle go “Back to Broadway”

EARLVILLE – The Voices of Tabernacle have once again been invited to perform at the Earlville Opera House, and at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, the group will perform a show full of current Broadway melodies.
The concert, titled “Back to Broadway,” will contain a number of selections from current Broadway shows, including “Westside Story,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” “A Chorus Line,” “42nd Street,” “Rent,” “Gypsy” and “Mama Mia.”
“Three years ago, we performed at the Earlville Opera House, and we did a Broadway revue,” said Voices of Tabernacle Director Anita Humer. “This time we wanted to do more current Broadway numbers.” Humer explained that medleys of songs from the top three shows, “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Westside Story” and “Mama Mia” would be included in the program. “We consider it an honor to be asked to sing again at the Earlville Opera House,” Humer said.
The Voices of Tabernacle is made up of 37 adult and student members from areas throughout Chenango County and beyond. “This year several high school students from Sherburne-Earlville and Norwich have joined us, and they have added a great deal. It has expanded and improved our sound,” Humer said. Vocal solos will be performed by two of the chorus members. Meena Conant, a professional singer who is new to the area, and Megan Murphy, a freshman at Norwich High School, will perform soprano solos. Stephen Sabin will perform an instrumental solo on the cello.
Other instrumental performers include Rosemary Jaytanie on the piano, Ray and Cathie Thielke on percussion, Daryl Pugh – a member of the Syracuse Symphony – on string bass and Henry Carpenter on jazz trombone.
Following the intermission of the show, The Blue Parsley Boys, an amateur, a cappella, barbershop group from Hamilton will take the stage. Made up of tenors Reg Wilson and Neal Roberts, leads Mark Ohl and Peter Lawrence, Baritones Bud Ballinger and Dan de Noyelles and basses Dave Lantz and Jim Lloyd, the group will perform religious anthems and spirituals, barbershop tunes, doo-wop and more.
The Voices of Tabernacle concert is the second concert in this year’s season at the EOH, which includes 12 performances. Tickets for the show can be purchased online at www.earlvilleoperahouse.com, in person or by calling (315) 691-3550. General admission price is $12, $10 for EOH members and $7 for students.
The Voices of Tabernacle is celebrating their tenth year of performing and according to Humer the chorus just keeps going. “These are all well known and loved Broadway tunes,” Humer said encouraging everyone to attend the show.
