Norwich basketball players awarded
More accolades came in for the Norwich boys’ basketball team when six of the team’s players from the 2008-2009 team were named to the BCANY (Basketball Coaches Association of New York) Academic All-State team. To qualify, players must be a junior or senior on the varsity basketball team, maintain at least a 90 scholastic average, and must be a first or second team all-star as determined by their league, section or local media. Just 18 players across New York State received the award, six coming from Norwich. The Tornado was also one of just two teams in New York – the other Sackets Harbor – to earn New Balance Boys’ Team Academic All-State honors. Norwich award winners pictured from the left are Derek Hughes, Josh Borfitz, David Carson, Richie Bonney, Corey Dietrich, and Timmy Clark.
