Cutting appointed as sheriff
NORWICH – The Chenango County Clerk’s Office confirmed Tuesday morning that it has received an order from Chenango County Court Judge W. Howard Sullivan appointing former Undersheriff Ernest R. Cutting Jr. to the vacant position of Chenango County Sheriff, effective today.
Cutting resigned from his position recently so he could be eligible for the position in compliance with the federal Hatch Act.
The Order of Designation identified the vacancy and said Cutting was a “highly experienced and trained in law enforcement as 23-veteran of the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office and well qualified,” for the position.
Thomas Loughren’s last day as sheriff was Monday. He has accepted a position as police chief on an Indian reservation in Florida.
