Ives Cream makes contribution to Relay for Life

NORWICH – This weekend, Chenango County will hold its 13th annual Relay for Life event, and while some may not be taking part by walking or donating to the cause, one local business is helping to provide a fun and delicious way for them to help make the event a success.
Ives Cream will be donating a portion of their sales and all of their tips throughout the week to the Relay for Life.
According to store owner Alex Ives, the business has been involved in the Relay almost every year since they opened. “In previous years, we’ve donated ice cream and created custom flavors,” Ives said, but this year, the business wanted to do a little more.
Ives explained that he feels strongly about the Relay and the cause it supports. “My mom was a breast cancer survivor, so when I can be of assistance to the American Cancer Society, I feel the need to do so,” he said.
A portion of the store’s sales from Monday to Saturday will be donated to the Relay, which will begin on July 17 and end the following day. The Relay for Life is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Funds raised go towards research; patient and family programs; advocacy; and health education, since many forms of cancer are avoidable with lifestyle changes.
The Chenango County Relay for Life is currently in its 13th year, and so far, in Chenango County alone, more than $1 million has been raised.
In addition to donating a portion of their sales and tips, Ives will also provide ice cream for a future ACS dinner. Throughout the week, they intend to have informational tables set up at the shop and details will be on display in the store’s windows.
According to Ives, the store held a similar fundraiser for the SPCA earlier in the year. “I feel honored and proud to be part of a community event that helps such a good cause,” Ives said. No official goal has been set for the event, and Ives explained he will be happy with whatever amount can be raised.
Ives Cream is located at 10 S. Broad St. in Norwich. The store is open from noon until 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays. For more information about the Chenango County Relay for Life, or to make a donation, visit www.relayforlife.org/chenangocountyny.
