Teen accused of threatening Oxford youths with knife

OXFORD – The Oxford Police Department arrested a teen for brandishing a knife and threatening three youths after they allegedly heckled him as he drove down the street.
The Oxford PD arrested Shane M. Roach, 19, of McDonough, Tuesday morning and charged him with second degree reckless endangerment, second degree menacing and endangering the welfare of a child, all misdemeanors. He was also charged with disorderly conduct, a violation.
Police say Roach displayed a knife to threaten three 13-year old boys.
“Roach was driving his car when he came upon the boys, who were on bicycles,” said Oxford Police Chief Rich Nolan.
“He believed they said something to him, so he stopped his car in the middle of the road and approached them,” Nolan said.
An argument began between Roach and one of the youths, Nolan said, which resulted in Roach pulling out a knife from his pocket and gesturing threateningly with it. The two other boys fled to call for help and Roach was subsequently arrested, arraigned and sent to the Chenango County Correctional Facility in lieu of $2,000 cash or $10,000 property bond.
Nolan said the kids weren’t yelling at Roach, but rather among themselves, adding, “They had never seen him before.”
Nolan said that Roach told police he believed the kids were “disrespecting” him.
Roach is scheduled to reappear in Village of Oxford Court Aug. 4.
