Top county spots unopposed in November
NORWICH – Last Thursday was the final day for candidates to file a designated petition on behalf of the five major parties in the upcoming Chenango County elections.
There is only one candidate for each of the open positions of Sheriff, County Court Judge and County Clerk.
The deadline for those wanting to run expired July 16 for the Democratic, Republican, Independence, Conservative and Working Family parties.
However those wishing to file an independent petition, apart from any party, may still do so between Aug. 11 and 18.
The Board of Elections said Tuesday morning that Republican Ernest R. Cutting was the sole candidate for the office of Sheriff. Cutting was appointed as acting Sheriff in June and was former Sheriff Thomas J. Loughren’s undersheriff.
