33nd Annual Greene Arts & Craft Festival this Saturday

GREENE – More than 10,000 visitors are expected for this weekend’s 33rd Annual Arts & Craft Festival in downtown Greene. The event, sponsored annually by the Greater Greene Chamber of Commerce (GGCC), will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, and is free and open to the public.
According to GGCC Co-Executive Director Deb Eggleston, this year’s festival will include more than 150 vendors from all corners of New York and Pennsylvania offering a wide variety of hand-crafted items. Everything from pottery, stained glass, folk art and handmade soaps to candles, needlework, jewelry and clothing will be available, the chamber executive said.
The event is a tradition for many, Eggleston reported, including not just local residents but also visitors from outside of the area.
Vendors begin setting up early Saturday morning along the length of Genesee Street from Franklin street to Memorial Park. They are helped in their efforts by the crew of more than 20 volunteers which have signed up to help with the event.
In addition to the crafters, there will also be live music from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in front of Moore Memorial Library courtesy of The Moonlighters. There will also be plenty of food and beverage options for visitors to enjoy. Downtown restaurants will remain open during the event and other items will be available for purchase at the food court near North Chenango Street.
While the event is sponsored and organized by the chamber, it is truly a community effort. Several local churches and non-profit groups will be selling food and handmade items, and Greene High School’s Interact Club has volunteered to take care of garbage pick up during the event and
Other important players include the Greene Police Department, Fire Police and Emergency squad, who will be on hand to make sure the festival runs smoothly. The Village & Town Hall offices have once again made their restrooms available for public use during the event.
Because there is limited off-street parking available on the village’s side streets, Eggleston recommends that visitors park at either the Greene Ball Flats or the Great American.
“There is plenty of parking in the designated areas for everyone who attends,” said Greene Police Chief Steve Dutcher. Those who do chose to park on side streets instead, he said, should heed posted parking regulations in order to avoid tickets or having their car towed.
Dutcher also asks that motorists driving through the village pay attention for pedestrians during the event and recommends avoiding South Canal Street, as the section between Wheeler Avenue and Page Street is currently closed for construction.
