Park Place, a Norwich-centered, family restaurant

NORWICH – A new restaurant has opened its doors in Norwich, and if this endeavor is anything like the last started by the same owners, it will be here for some time to come.
Chic and Dave Cirello, owners of Fred’s Inn, opened a new restaurant, Park Place, last week. Chic, who has 32 years of experience at Fred’s Inn, and Dave, who has more than 20, explained that after walking through the site of the former East Park Supper Club, they decided opening another eatery at the location would be a good investment.
“It’s the kind of restaurant that is not here in town,” said Chic. Unlike Fred’s Inn, Park Place is a more causal, family-style restaurant. “All of our entrees are $14.99 and under,” Dave said, explaining that the restaurant offers smoothies, a children’s menu and sundaes.
While the restaurant will cater to families and children, there will also be something for adults. The lounge area will open in approximately a month when the establishment’s liquor license has been received.
Park Place sits in the center of downtown Norwich, adjacent to East Park, and due to its location, the restaurant will celebrate all things Norwich. Backlighted photos of the Norwich landscape are prominently displayed on the restaurant’s walls, and several of the items on the menu are named after local establishments, including the Norwich Burger and the Courthouse Burger. Chic explained that the local city officials have been instrumental in getting the restaurant off the ground. “The City of Norwich has gone out of their way to help us get this storefront up and running,” he said. “Everyone from the mayor on down.”
Before they could open, the Cirellos had to make many physical improvements to the business, including replacing the roof, the carpet and the refrigeration system and doing a lot of cleaning to get the business ready.
Currently, Park Place is open seven days a week. The restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. On the weekends, they will offer a breakfast buffet in addition to their full menu. Once the restaurant receives its liquor license, the lounge will be open for extended hours.
Already, the restaurant has hired an additional 15 employees, and that number will likely rise to 20 once the lounge has been opened. “Between the two locations, we have over 40 people on the payroll,” Dave said.
“We’ve been very fortunate with the people we’ve hired. We have a lot of nice competent people,” Chic said.
Although they have only been open for a week, the initial response to the restaurant has been great, the Cirellos said. “We look forward to doing business in downtown Norwich and hopefully being another asset of downtown,” Dave said.
Park Place is located at 7-9 East Park Place in Norwich. For more information, call 336-7275.
