Otsego County Fair gets underway in Morris
MORRIS – The Otsego County Fair opened on Tuesday at the fairgrounds in Morris for the “Best Six Days of Summer.” There will be free entertainment throughout fair week as well as special grandstand events at a minimal charge. True to the country fair tradition, there will be animal shows and agricultural exhibits. Of special interest to the younger fairgoers will be the rides and games on the midway by Gillette Shows and plenty of food to eat.
The 40th season of the Gillette Shows carnival rides at Morris will be open daily at noon with pay one price rides on Wednesday from 5 to 10 p.m., Thursday from noon to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
Free entertainment every day at the fair includes a range of fun activities. These include Buffalo Barfield Un-herd, Green Mountain Farm Frogs (bugs and animals), Two By Two Zoo, Chain Saw Artist Critter Crossing Creations and a variety of entertainment in the Grange Building.
The Otsego County Federation of Sportsmen’s club exhibit will feature all week long pellet and bow shoot, instruction and safety taught, fly tying demonstrations, fish and taxidermy exhibits and wildlife.
Demonstrations in Flora Hall will be Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m., Friday noon to 4 p.m., and Sunday 2 to 4:30 p.m.
Grandstand entertainment kicked off Tuesday with a free day sponsored by Wilber National Bank with the fire service and school band parade at 7:30 p.m. sponsored by NY Central Mutual Insurance Co. followed by fireworks at dark sponsored by NBT Bank. Wednesday night grandstand will be open 4 wheel drive truck pull at 7:30 p.m.
Thursday at 7:30 p.m. will be total destruction demolition derby, and Friday will be the NYTPA sanctioned truck pull.
Saturday at 7 p.m. will be the A.O.E BMX Freestyle and Freestyle MX show and a special team demolition derby by Total Destruction. Sunday features two demolition derbies at 1 p.m. and the final total destruction demolition at 6 p.m.
