Local exchange student celebrates return from Japan

PRESTON – “Welcome home Kayce!” Kayce Jones, Rotary Youth Exchange Student, sponsored by the Oxford Rotary Club, District 7170, returned safely home after a year in Hiroto, Awaji Shima, Japan.
To celebrate, on Saturday, Kayce’s family threw her a “Welcome Home” party at Preston Pryde Park. Many friends and family members came to greet Kayce with open arms! There was a DJ with music and karaoke, lots of food and a special cake.
Kayce said that she had a wonderful time in Japan, “kicked butt in Kendo”, did well in school, and made many friends. When asked what she missed about the USA, she said it was her friends here. If she could take them with her, Kayce said that she’d “go back to Japan in a heartbeat!”
Students participating in Rotary’s Youth Exchange Program (YEP) learn a new way of living, a great deal about themselves, and a new language. Rotary Exchange Students are ambassadors, teaching people they meet about their country, culture, and ideas. They help bring the world closer – and make some good friends in the process.
To learn more about the Rotary Youth Exchange Program (YEP) come meet the Oxford Rotary Club. They meet weekly on Thursdays, 6:30 p.m., usually at the Clachan Coffee House.
