Oxford makes another arrest in out of control party brawl

OXFORD – The Oxford Police Department has made a final arrest in an investigation into a house party in the Village of Oxford that led to multiple arrests and an out of control street brawl.
Police took six people into custody July 24 in relation to an out of control party the ended with 15 people fighting in the middle of Greene Street.
Chief Richard Nolan said the party began around 4 p.m. on the grass in front of a rental unit at 20 Greene St. inhabited by 29 year-old Timothy and 22-year-old Jessica L. Byrne.
Police said Jessica bought a 12-pack of beer for the minors at the party after she collected their money. Nolan said she was also holding her infant while she engaged in a verbal argument with others at the party, yelling obscenities and fighting. Police said the infant was screaming and crying when they arrived at the scene.
She was charged with unlawfully dealing with a child, endangering the welfare of a child, disorderly conduct and issued a citation for excessive noise and several other lower level offenses.
Timothy Byrne was charged with unlawfully dealing with a child, disorderly conduct and excessive noise.
Christopher M. Hill, 22, of County Rd 32 in Oxford, was also charged with unlawfully dealing with a child over the incident.
Shawn Cummings, 31, of 16 Merchant Street, was charged with second degree harassment and disorderly conduct.
One minor, age 16, was charged with consumption of alcohol by a minor.
“It started with loud music,” Nolan explained, but then escalated until more than 15 children and adults were in the street drinking and fighting.
Nolan said six neighbors had made complaints regarding the party and Oxford Police Officer Ronald Martin responded to the scene. According to Martin’s report, many of the minors fled as soon as police arrived.
After police broke up one fight at the home and were heading back to the station to process an arrest, they had to turn around and returned to the scene because a second altercation had started.
“Extra officers were called in to control the situation,” said Nolan.
Police said they had concluded their investigation and that no further arrests were anticipated.
