Otselic couple chosen as face of Chenango County Fair

OTSELIC – For nearly four decades, Marjorie and Stan Davis have farmed the Otselic dairy which has been in the Davis family for generations, raising two sons and becoming heavily involved with the local agricultural community in the process.

This month, as they prepare to celebrate their 39th wedding anniversary, the Davises are receiving one of the highest honors given by the Chenango County Agricultural Society. In recognition of their continued commitment to it and a number of other ag-related organizations, the couple has been named Mr. and Mrs. Chenango County Fair 2009.

“It’s an honor, but it’s also a responsibility to make sure we represent the fair and what it stands for properly,” explained Marjorie Davis of the importance of the role she and her husband will play this week during the fair.

The couple will make their official debut Tuesday night in the 4-H and Fireman’s Parade, where they will travel in style in the back of a convertible. From there, their responsibilities will continue throughout the fair, according to Stan. The two plan to be at the fairgrounds each day of the fair, attending events and escorting dignitaries and visitors from other fairs across the state.

“We look at them as good will ambassadors at the fair,” explained Mary Weidman, president of the Chenango County Agricultural Society, often referred to as the Fair Board.
