Oxford offense stonewalled by Deposit

Deposit 3, Oxford 0
DEPOSIT – Oxford seldom threatened on offense, and if not for a stingy defense, may have suffered a blowout loss in its season opener Thursday.
“Hats off to our defense, the score could have been a lot worse,” said Oxford coach Melissa Chrystie. “It was shot after shot (by Deposit), but our defense never gave up.”
Melissa Martin had Deposit’s lone goal of the first half scoring with five minutes left in the first half. Chelsea Russell scored the the Lumberjacks’ first goal in the second half to create breathing room.
Deposit finished with 23 shots, and while Oxford had the ball in its opponent’s defensive zone, it never put a shot on goal. “We’re looking for anyone to step up on offense and pave the way for other players,” Chrystie said. “We need to go back to the drawing board.”
Oxford hosts Walton Tuesday.
