Big second half for Greene
Boys’ Soccer
Greene 3, Delhi 1
GREENE – All it took for Greene to pick up the pace was find itself on the short end of the scoreboard.
Delhi’s Carson King scored with 18:34 left in the first half giving the Bulldogs the early lead. From that point on, it was all Greene, who scored three unanswered goals in the second half, and defeated Delhi for the first time in three years.
“We weren’t playing with any momentum or passion, and (Delhi’s) goal lit a fire under us,” said Greene coach Rick Tallman. “Whether the score reflected it or not, I thought we dominated the first half. Their sweeper is phenomenal and made it difficult for us, but once we started playing it outside and put good passing combinations together, we were able to step up and score.”
The Trojans tied the game eight minutes into the second half after a foul in the penalty box led to Alex Driscoll’s penalty kick. Driscoll netted the go-ahead goal four minutes later beating a Delhi defender and netting the tally into the left side of the net.
Eli Marks tacked on an insurance goal getting a feed from Evan Moxley. “This is a big win for us, especially considering how good Delhi has been the last two years,” Tallman said. “We’ve known the past two years that we could play with them. This should give us a good momentum boost.”
Greene plays Unatego this Friday at 6 p.m. in the Oxford Tournament.
