Oxford BOE OKs revival of winter guard

OXFORD – An Oxford alumn received the blessing of the district’s board of education Monday night to revive a club which she said taught her about teamwork and leadership during her years at the school.

Amber Davis, a 2006 graduate of Oxford High School, approached the school board for permission to explore student interest in reactivating winter guard, an indoor color guard activity which she explained combines dance, marching and equipment spinning.

Davis said she does believe sufficient interest already exists in reviving the program. A preliminary sign-up of students in seventh through twelfth grade conducted in June with minimal publicity yielded a dozen names, she explained.
