Free bike safety rodeo in Greene this Saturday
GREENE – Safety will be the primary focus of a bike rodeo sponsored by Cub Scout Pack 162 of Greene at 10 a.m. Saturday. The event, which is being held in conjunction with the Village of Greene Police Department, will take place in the Great American parking lot.
“This is our first one, and we are excited about it,” Den Mother Kellie Gyurik said, explaining that the pack hoped to turn the rodeo into an annual event.
Registration will begin at 10 a.m., after which Patrolman Scott Hubbard will talk to participants about bike safety and the local and state laws pertaining to bicycle riding
According to Gyurik, Hubbard’s presentation will be followed by hands-on demonstrations for the kids on how to properly adjust their helmets, learn how to use hand signals, check the air in their tires and make sure their bikes are properly adjusted for height. Then they will move on to obstacles courses set up for each age group. Each participant will have the chance one of three bike helmets, which will be raffled off at the end of the event, she added.
The bike rodeo is being offered free of charge to children ages 4 to 12. All participants must be accompanied by an adult, and should come with their bike and helmet.
