GREENE – In a matchup of returning Section IV champions, Greene remained unbeaten on the season edging Maine-Endwell.
Erin Smith scored for the Trojans (5-0) with 3:28 left in the first half. She took a pass on a penalty corner from Jahna Driscoll, pulled the ball left to avoid an M-E defender, and blasted a hard shot that nicked off a Spartans defender into the goal.
“I thought we played very well under pressure today,” said Greene coach Sue Carlin. “They gave us a good test, and we weathered the storm. Our defense came up big when we needed it.”
Greene meets Harpursville this Friday at 5 p.m. at the Oxford tournament.

Jess Fusco scored three minutes into the second period, and Melia Wakeman upped the lead to three goals midway through the half. “They came out strong in the second half and took it to us,” said Oxford coach Melissa Chrystie. “That is probably the best Sidney team I have seen in a while. They really moved the ball well.”

Sarah Bonnell beat three Windsor defenders, then slid the ball past the keeper for the Tornado’s winning goal at 23 minutes of the second half. Norwich controlled play throughout the second stanza after a sluggish opening 40 minutes.
“The girls knew this was a game they could potentially win, and I think we overlooked them a little in the first half,” said Norwich coach Jeremy Bolton. “The second half, we settled down and pretty much controlled the game.”
NHS goalie Tatyana Ithier made five saves for her first shutout this season. Norwich is at Chenango Forks Thursday.

OXFORD – Oxford rallied for two goals down in the first half, and clinched its fifth win of the season converting a penalty kick with five minutes left in the game.
Kyle Ferrington made a run with the ball up the right side, and after moving toward the middle, was tripped in the box to set up the winning goal.
Unatego held nearly a 2-to-1 advantage in shots on goal, and had Oxford on its heels early after creating a two-goal bulge. “They were a lot better than the last time we saw them,” said Oxford coach Matt Dorman of Unatego.
Taylor Bates scored three goals in the final 10 minutes of the first half to give Oxford the lead. Bates added a second-half goal to complete his four-tally day. “It was great to see the guys step up, and I was kind of wondering when we would do it,” Dorman said. “Coming back from two goals is not impossible, but it wasn’t a great feeling to give up the first goal just five minutes into the game.”
Oxford (5-2) plays a non-league game at McGraw on Thursday.

“We had some real golden opportunities to tie the game, the ball just didn’t bounce our way,” said B-G coach Pete Feltham. “Our defense was solid, it’s just their first two shots (that went in the goal) were stellar.”

“We had some terrific swims in everything, and especially the relays,” said Greene coach Mike Platta. “One week we may not swim well, and the next week, like tonight, everything clicks. The girls weren’t satisfied before, and tonight they came through big time.”
