CCHS Museum open for Smithsonian Magazine’s 5th Annual Museum Day

NORWICH – On Saturday, the Chenango County Historical Society (CCHS) Museum will participate in the fifth annual Museum Day, presented by the Smithsonian Magazine. A celebration of culture, learning and the dissemination of knowledge, Smithsonian’s Museum Day reflects the spirit of the magazine, and emulates the free-admission policy of the Smithsonian Institution’s Washington, D.C. – based properties. Doors will be open free of charge to Smithsonian magazine readers and Smithsonian.com visitors at museums and cultural institutions nationwide.
The CCHS Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for Museum Day. Visitors may tour three floors of exhibits including early farming tools, artifacts from the native American period, early and late 19th century life, and the Chenango Canal. Visitors may also see the rare Civil War era honor flag presented to the 114th New York Volunteers along with other military items.
CITGO is the supporting sponsor of Museum Day. Attendees should present the Museum Day Admission Card for entry to the museum. Visit www.smithsonian.com/museumday to download the card, or find it in the September issue of Smithsonian magazine. Links and listings of other museums’ and sponsors’ sites can also be found at this website.
The Chenango County Historical Society Museum is open weekdays from 1-5 p.m., and Sundays from 1-4 p.m. April through November. Admission is free, with donations greatly appreciated. For more information call 334-9227 or visit our website at www.chenango.history.museum.
