Three shutout wins in Cyclones’ sweep
NORWICH – The Cyclones “A” Team dismantled the unbeaten Camden Blue Devils, 38-0, to complete a sweep at Alumni Field Sunday.
Frank Garcia started the touchdown parade with a 24-yard TD run in the first quarter. In the second, Michael Oralls reached paydirt on a 28-yard pass from Michael Sutton.
Randy Stokes raced for a 33-yard TD, and Keegan Franklin returned an interception for a 50-yard touchdown on the last play of the half.
Stokes kicked all four two-point conversions for a 32-0 halftime lead.
In the fourth quarter, Matthew Burke intercepted a Blue Devils pass and raced untouched to the endzone on a 60-yard interception return.
The stiff Cyclones defense was led by Oralls, Sutton, Trent Stone, Garcia, John Marvin, Storm Cook and Jacob Perone, as well as the entire defensive units,stopping Camden cold.
The Cyclones’ “B” team stopped New Hartford,14-0, to remain undefeated.
Jon Manwarren scored on a 12-yard pass from Jordan Vinal with 2.4 seconds remaining in the first half, and Alec Weaver kicked the two-point P.A.T. for an 8-0 lead.
In the fourth quarter, Cameron Edwards sealed the win with a nine-yard TD run.
On “D,” Weaver led the Cyclones’ shutout with Matt Parella, Landon Cummings, Carlos Itheir, Manwarren, Trey Muserallo, Edwards, and Dan Zieno having big defensive days also.
The Norwich “C” team’s record remained unblemished with a 20-0 win over Camden. Cole Rifanburg scored on a four-yard TD run in the second quarter culminating a 10-minute, 76-yard Cyclone drive. Carter Hubbard added the point-after with a pass from Rifanburg.
Rifanburg added on a 14-yard TD and the extra-point for a 14-0 halftime lead. Hubbard scored on a 51-yard scamper to paydirt in the third to finish the scoring.
Hubbard led the defensive shutout effort, along with Rifanburg, Dalen Geislinger, and Alex Wehrli, whose fumble recovery at the Blue Devils’ 14 set up the second TD. A fumble recovery by Nathan Scheer, and good efforts by Paden Burlison, Ben Scheer, Marcus Benjamin and Ty Rifanburg helped seal the shutout.
The Cyclones’ “D” team was dominant in a non-scoring, controlled scrimmage with Camden.
The Cyclones travel to Holland Patent Sunday for all four games, with D, C, B, and A teams starting at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 4:30 p.m. respectively.
