BOCES holds open house, grand opening ceremony this week
NORTH NORWICH – In late 2005, the Board of Cooperative Educational Services gained voter approval for a large scale expansion and renovation project at each of the two campuses it operates to serve the 16 school districts in Delaware, Chenango, Madison and Otsego counties.
Less than four years and $48 million later, the work is complete and BOCES is eager to show off their new and improved, state-of-the-art facilities.
On Wednesday and Thursday, open houses will be held at both the Chenango Campus in North Norwich and the Robert W. Harrold Campus in Sidney Center to allow community members to see the results of the capital improvement project.
The events will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. on each day, and will feature student-guided tours, exhibits and displays of student work and refreshments.
On Wednesday, the organizers will specifically welcome members of boards of education, teachers and staff from each of DCMO BOCES’ 16 component school districts as well as representatives from area colleges, students, parents, alumni and retirees. On Thursday, they will welcome the press, community agencies, members of the local business community, elected officials, consultant committee members and work experience providers.
On Saturday, each campus will hold grand opening ceremonies, complete with ceremonial ribbon cuttings, student performances, guest speakers and refreshments.
Opening ceremonies will be held at 10 a.m. at the Robert W. Harrold Campus, 270 BOCES Drive in Sidney Center, and at 2 p.m. at the Chenango Campus, 6678 County Road 32 in North Norwich.
