Bainbridge man arrested in decades-old Long Island killing

MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) — Police say a Bainbridge man has been arrested in the killing of a New Jersey woman 20 years ago on Long Island.
Nassau County police say the 38-year-old man from Bainbridge, Joey Bethea, was awaiting arraignment Wednesday on a charge of second-degree murder in First District Court in Hempstead.
Bethea is suspected of killing 22-year-old Dorothy LeConte in 1989 on the grounds of Hempstead High School.
The Long Island Press reports that the victim was a Haitian immigrant and student who was visiting her brother and aunt. The paper says reports at the time said she was strangled and sexually assaulted.
State police arrested the suspect Tuesday in Nineveh.
Investigators planned to discuss details of the case Wednesday.
